What Not to Do When House Sitting

Introducing Evertree Mountain States

So your neighbors with the giant house and the crazy cable package asked you to watch their Fort Collins, CO house. Pretty exciting, isn’t it? Well, while you can check out their premium TV, there are a few big no-nos you need to avoid while watching the house. Evertree Mountain States always recommends running everything by the homeowners, but here are a few musts you need to follow.

Big Parties

Don’t throw a party. At all. The homeowners asked you to come in and watch the house, not take advantage of it. You need to respect their house like it is their own. If you want to invite one person over, or a few friends to watch the game, ask them ahead of time. Outside of a few close friends, nobody else should come over. If you wouldn’t let someone into your house, you shouldn’t let them into someone else’s.

Blast the Heat/AC

When away, homeowners typically expect their utility bills to drop, not skyrocket. If they have the temp set, leave it. Don’t fiddle with the controls or the temperature settings.

Go Snooping

While they invited you into their house, it isn’t an open invitation to start snooping. Everyone has something they probably wouldn’t like someone else to see, so don’t try to sneak peaks in closets or cupboards outside of the kitchen looking for dishes.

Laundry

That nice washer and dryer is calling for you to use, doesn’t it? Well, don’t. The last thing you need to happen is damaging one of the appliances. Even so, unless the homeowners say it is alright for you to do something, don’t do it.

The Crossword Puzzle

Let’s face it, some people are pretty into their crossword puzzles. So if they receive a paper, don’t fill it in.
