What Not to Do When House Sitting

So your neighbors with the giant house and the crazy cable package asked you to watch their Fort Collins, CO house. Pretty exciting, isn’t it? Well, while you can check out their premium TV, there are a few big no-nos you need to avoid while watching the house. Alliance Insurance Services always recommends running everything by the homeowners, but here are a few musts you need to follow.

Big Parties

Don’t throw a party. At all. The homeowners asked you to come in and watch the house, not take advantage of it. You need to respect their house like it is their own. If you want to invite one person over, or a few friends to watch the game, ask them ahead of time. Outside of a few close friends, nobody else should come over. If you wouldn’t let someone into your house, you shouldn’t let them into someone else’s.

Blast the Heat/AC

When away, homeowners typically expect their utility bills to drop, not skyrocket. If they have the temp set, leave it. Don’t fiddle with the controls or the temperature settings.

Go Snooping

While they invited you into their house, it isn’t an open invitation to start snooping. Everyone has something they probably wouldn’t like someone else to see, so don’t try to sneak peaks in closets or cupboards outside of the kitchen looking for dishes.

Laundry

That nice washer and dryer is calling for you to use, doesn’t it? Well, don’t. The last thing you need to happen is damaging one of the appliances. Even so, unless the homeowners say it is alright for you to do something, don’t do it.

The Crossword Puzzle

Let’s face it, some people are pretty into their crossword puzzles. So if they receive a paper, don’t fill it in.

Follow These Tips To Save Gas in Your Vehicle

Saving money on gas is something that many people try to do every day. There is more to it than finding a gas station with a cheaper rate. There are some serious things you can do to reduce the amount of gas you use on a daily basis which results in saving money every time you drive. Follow these tips to save gas.

  • Purchase a more efficient vehicle. Every year, the efficiency gets better in the vehicles that are produced. If you have an older vehicle that feels like it guzzles gas, that it probably because it does. Get a better can and you will save gas with every fill up.
  • Keep up with the maintenance on the vehicle. It can be easy to let an oil change slip you by but did you know that you are really costing yourself more money in the process? By keeping up with regular maintenance on your vehicle, you keep it more fuel efficient.
  • Drive infrequently in the winter. Your car will use much more gas in the winter than it will in the summer. This is partly due to the fact that you should warm it up before driving and that can drain your gas. If you have to drive in the winter, try to park your car in a warmer place, like your garage, so it doesn’t take as long to warm up. You can even try to cover your motor to keep it warmer at night.

Saving gas in your vehicle can be done with a combination of helpful tips. No matter what, be sure to have an up to date policy for your auto insurance. Contact Alliance Insurance Services serving Fort Collins, CO to review your current policy or get you started.
